Mental Health First Aid

This program is certified by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. It improves mental health literacy and provides the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, a family member, a friend, or a colleague.

The 2-days evidence-based MHFA Basic course provides:

  • Confidence and skills to engage someone with an emerging health problem or in a mental health crisis

  • Greater recognition of mental health problems

  • Improved mental health for themselves

  • A Mental Health Commission of Canada certificate of completion

Mental Health First Aid - Adults who Interact with Youth

MHFA Adults who Interact with Youth is intended for an adult audience whose primary focus is youth (aged 14-25). In addition to the four most common disorders discussed in MHFA BASIC, this course includes instruction about eating disorders and deliberate self-injury. Participants who take this course are well prepared to interact confidently about mental health with the young people in their lives, including at schools, extra-curricular activities, social services, family, friends, and communities.

Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW)

The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is a three-day intensive program for those who teach adults in any disciplinary background on any topic. In small peer group settings, this workshop is designed to enhance instructors' skills, including the theory and practice of teaching adult learners, selecting and writing helpful learning objectives with accompanying lesson plans, techniques for eliciting learner participation, and suggestions for evaluation of learning.

A licensed ISW facilitator teaches this workshop. Participants completing the entire three-day program will receive an internationally recognized certificate of completion.

Opioid Overdose Response Training

This 3.5-hour course provides you with in-depth training to recognize and intervene in case of an opioid overdose situation. Each participant will perform simulated injections using similar equipment available through the take-home naloxone kits. It uses life-like training aids in various scenarios to ensure participants leave feeling confident and capable of intervening in an opioid overdose. The course includes artificial respiration and emergency scene management.

Joint Health and Safety Committee Training

This one-day JHSC course is for new JHSC members or existing members who would like to refresh their knowledge. The JHSC is mandatory for all B.C. companies with 20 or more employees, and each joint committee member and worker health and safety rep is entitled to eight hours of leave per year to attend occupational health and safety training courses.
